Growing up in Kent, in the Medway Towns, I always resented the ‘Garden of England’ tag it had. It was always more interesting – full of rough, unexplored backwaters and bolshy people. No wonder some of Dickens’ best characters and novels have Kentish settings. Here are a few images from my too infrequent visits back to the county – Rochester Castle and the Pilgrim’s Way near Canterbury.
