Thanet

I’ve always had a fascination with Thanet – I went to school for a few years in Ramsgate and spent many childhood holidays on its beaches. It’s a rough-looking sort of place – none of the ‘Garden of England’ there. But from the Victorian stateliness of Ramsgate, the bleakness of Pegwell Bay, the tawdry exuberance of Margate, the haunting fogs of the Goodwin Sands, it has a very distinctive presence.
